September Featured Entertainment: THE TOPEKA ROADRUNNERS
THE TEAM:
The Topeka RoadRunners hockey team is led by Head Coach Scott Langer who brings a lifetime of hockey experience to the table not only as a player, but as an assistant coach and head coach as well. Twenty three players between the ages of 16 - 21 make up the RoadRunners roster.
THE PLAYERS
The players stay with host families, called "billet families". For some, it is their first time away from home as they move toward their dreams. These young men show unrivaled dedication in their pursuit.
THE LEAGUE:
The North American Hockey League has grown from a Michigan-based bus league 30 years ago to a league with 26 teams reaching from Michigan to Texas and Alaska. Players join the league in hopes of gaining maximum hockey exposure and the opportunity to succeed. Many players move from the NAHL on to play Division I college hockey and further their educations.
THE ARENA:
The RoadRunners play all home games at Landon Arena in the Kansas Expocentre. For more information on the facility call (785) 235-1986 or visit www.ksexpo.com.
THE SEASON:
The RoadRunners play a 58-game schedule with 27 games at home, 27 away and 4 games in the NAHL Showcase, held in Blaine, MN each September. The season extends through March with playoffs commencing in April, culminating with the Robertson Cup in the first week of May, which will be hosted in Topeka this season!
